Makerbase TMC2209 V2.0 Stepper Motor Driver

Makerbase TMC2209 V2.0 stepper drivers are configured via UART, and that UART control is required to configure many of their settings fully. They are best used with a control board that supports UART natively – such as our RUMBA32 boards!

Q & A

The Makerbase TMC2209 V2.0 is a silent stepper motor driver module that provides smooth, efficient motion control for 3D printers, CNC machines, and robotics.
It supports UART communication for easy configuration and features advanced technologies like StealthChop2 and SpreadCycle for quiet, precise performance. Compatible with most microcontrollers and mainboards, the TMC2209 provides overcurrent and thermal protection, ensuring reliable operation.
Ideal for DIY projects, it delivers high torque with minimal noise and excellent power efficiency.

Makerbase TMC2209 V2.0 are compatible with any control board that accepts this footprint, including RAMPS and RUMBA+. This board comes with the headers already soldered and complete with a heatsink, with adhesive already attached. Perfect!

Unlike many other step stick designs, the TMC2209 step stick has the stepper driver IC and most other components sit on the bottom of the driver board, so the top is a flat surface for the heatsink to attach to. This improves the thermal dissipation when a heatsink is attached.

Adjustable current control lets you set the maximum current output with a potentiometer, allowing you to use voltages above your stepper motor’s rated voltage to achieve higher step rates.
Intelligent chopping control automatically selects the appropriate current decay mode (fast or slow).
