Description:
A voltage regulator is a system designed to maintain a constant voltage automatically. A voltage regulator may use a simple feed-forward design or include negative feedback, and it may use an electromechanical mechanism or electronic components. Depending on the design, you may use it to regulate one or more AC or DC voltages.
Need a small 5V regulator? This L4931 from ST will help you get a clean 5V with 2% regulation from some source with 5.5-20V, all with a high-efficiency level thanks to its low drop voltage. Perfect for much of your circuits!
They come in a TO-92 package, with a capacity of up to 300mA with over-current protection and automatic shutdown against overheating, making it robust and almost indestructible (at least electronically speaking).
This L4931 5.0V 250mA Linear Voltage regulator 5 Pack has a drop voltage of only 0.4V, much better than the 780X 2V series. this means you must power it at least 5.4V to get 5V output. They are generally used to obtain 5V from 9V batteries or similar. It has a leakage current of 1mA (which increases to 5mA when you pass 250mA through it), so it is suitable for portable and battery-powered projects.
This regulator requires at least one 2.2uF electrolytic capacitor for both input and output for its stability, and 10uF will do the job smoothly.
